Living in a comfortable space is so, so important to me. I’m such a freak for my spaces being organized, clean, and aesthetically attractive. I think I’m one of those people who just thrives being in a put-together room. I began living in apartments when I was a fresh eighteen years old, so I’ve been through the small space living a time or two and have some valuable information to share! If you are working with a small space or a dorm room and love boho bedroom decor, you’re in the right place.
When I moved into my first apartment, it was basically an unconventional dorm room. I had three other roommates. We each had our own room but had to share a bathroom with another person, a full (shared) kitchen, and a pretty large living room area. It was cool for being a first time college student on my own! It was most definitely a LOT more space than your typical dorm room living and it came fully furnished so it was pretty great.
From college “dorm room” living, to numerous downtown Denver apartments with limited square footage and space, I’m finalllllyyyy in a larger apartment in Omaha with so much amazing space (and so much cheaper than CO!!). I’ve learned how to roll with the space I have and how to utilize the crap out of my furniture, what to splurge on, and what looks expensive when it’s actually not. I’m basically an apartment guru.
So, where does it make sense to splurge when it comes to buying for your apartment?
I always say to go biiig when it comes to comfort. You want a nice mattress, right? You don’t want to wake up with a sore back and dreading your sleep every single night. Go for a nice mattress with GOOD ratings, YES; you will need to do research for this. It is SO important! Next, splurge on your pillows. It goes hand in hand with your mattress but think about it, you don’t want an uncomfortable pillow to lay your head on every night in your cozy bed that you just spent so much time researching and finding the perfect one. Here are my recommendations for highly rated mattresses and pillows, all on Amazon!

Let’s get to the good stuff, friends! I, like many young adults, am in that head space of SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! I often have buyers’ guilt if I buy something expensive knowing I could’ve probably found it cheaper elsewhere. I am an avid Home Goods gal and will gladly spend that extra twenty minutes finding the best clearance deal or talking down the price on a piece of furniture. Have you ever heard of that saying “I have more time than money” — that’s me 🙂
I hope you enjoy this list of 20+ apartment bedroom must-haves! I promise, these are all so worth it and so great if you’re looking to maximize your comfort and style. Let’s dive on in.
White Duvet
White is my absolute favorite color when working with designing your bed. You can always add color with your pillows or a throw blanket. A crisp white duvet can make your bedroom look like a five-star hotel instantly.
Ultra Soft Throw
Have you felt a Barefoot Dreams Blanket? They are insanely cozy! But insanely expensive. This throw is a great alternative for those who love the chunkiness of the pricey blankets but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg.
Rattan Nightstand
Night stands are tricky for me. They are 100% a necessity but I think they can go from functional to an eye sore, instantly. I love the rattan design of this and love the functionality of having a fully enclosed setup. No more clutter!
Concrete Lamp
I love adding hints of concrete into my decor. It’s such a fun texture that can seriously set the tone for your place. It creates the perfect natural, boho vibe.
Black Velvet Pillows
Mmm, black velvet. I can bring so much life to a room. I’m not much of a colorful person when it comes to decorating so you’ll see me throwing in black pillows to fill a space!! I think this would be a good one.
Natural Woven Baskets
Baskets are wonderful space savers when looking for blanket storage! I have so many cute baskets that I swap throughout seasons and when my style changes. It’s a great way to hide your pillow obsession from your boyfriend this is me speaking from experience.
Faux Fiddle Leaf
I love a nice and tall Fiddle Leaf! The lush green leaves of this tree makes me so very happy. I cannot keep a real plant alive to save my life so I will happily support the faux plant movement for the rest of my life haha
Antique Carved Mirror
Tell me you’ve been keeping up with home decor trends without telling me that you’ve kept up with home decor trends. This mirror is the jam, guys! There is something so appealing about the antique look of it and people are spending $$$ on mirrors just like this!
Dipped Blanket Ladder
Blanket ladders are genius! Let me put you on it. Since we’re dealing with minimal space in an apartment, these ladders are brilliant for saving space while looking super cozy.
Dotted Terracotta Vase
Look at this adorable dotted vase! I love it. Pop in some faux greenery or pretty poppy stems and place it on top of your dresser or bookshelf.
Dried Pampas Grass
If you’re a reader of mine and are familiar with my home decor style, you would know that I am an advocate for pampas grass and styling it in SO many ways. I always find ways to decorate it with it throughout my apartment.
Wood Pedestal
This natural wood pedestal is perfect for putting your favorite perfumes or a delicious scented candle on display. It’s the perfect size to put on a shelf or on your nightstand if you’re working with little space.
Wall Basket Decor
Basket decor is the best. You can style these fun platters in endless ways to create the most beautiful wall piece! Check these out from Etsy.
Floating Shelves
Floating shelves are so much fun to style! Display some of your favorite decor pieces but try not to go crazy — open shelves are so great to fill a space but can easily look cluttered and jammed if not styled in a minimalistic way!
Boho Curtains
Adding cute curtains to your room is like the cherry on top for completing the aesthetic of your room. Remember the rule of thumb when installing your curtains — always put the rod HIGH! Either half way between the top of the window and the ceiling or as close to the ceiling as you can get. Make sure the curtains are long enough to skim the floor, that is key!
Printed Persian Rug
If you’re in the market for a beautiful Persian rug, look no further! This rug is from a seller on Amazon who constantly drops the price (thanks for the info, Honey!) The gorgeous colors in this are perfect for a black, white, and rattan bohemian room.
Woven Laundry Basket
Ahhh, the dreaded laundry basket! It pains me to decorate around a basket full of dirty clothes but ya know, it’s all a part of life and I actually really like this cloth basket. The black jute look works perfectly with the style that we’re going for. Pop this in a corner in your room and say adios to the old school hamper!
Padded Ottoman
Doing makeup in your bedroom or dorm at a vanity? This ottoman is great for small spaces and easy for storing. The style is perfect for that neutral boho look and can easily be pulled out for extra seating when friends are over.
Reed Diffuser
Living in a dorm room usually means a strict policy on having no candles or things that need to be lit with fire. A reed diffuser is a great way to get a fresh aroma without having to spark a match for your favorite candle. This Amazon diffuser is so cute, definitely the best I’ve seen (I did lots of research!). I love the Amber glass and vintage looking label. Perfect for our theme.
Macrame Magazine Basket
I recently became the owner of a magazine basket and I’m not sure how I didn’t convince myself to do this sooner! I use it for both magazines and I also keep it in front of an outlet to hide the cords for my electronics. It’s brilliant!
